Medicine Wheel

"B.O.E solutes and acknowledges the Native American Medicine Wheel for all its deep esoteric meanings.

Of the many meanings it represents, there is one that encompasses human integrity and dignity in which; COMPASSION, RESPECT, REVERENCE and COURTESY formulate a simple recipe that mitigates our common issues, encourages self-improvement and restores a Balance in our individual Identity.

The wheel is a blueprint for improving your character which is what recovery is about.

Compassion- Genuine concern for the misfortune and suffering of others.

Empathy- The ability to genuinely understand the feelings of others.

Humility- Freedom from pride and arrogance by understanding your role in recovery.

Courtesy- The showing of politeness in attitude and behavior towards another. "

Native American Indian Ideals

B.O.E solutes and acknowledges the Native American Medicine Wheel for all its deep esoteric meanings. Of the many meanings it represents, there is one that encompasses human integrity and dignity in which; COMPASSION, RESPECT, REVERENCE and COURTESY formulate a simple recipe that mitigates our common issues, encourages self-improvement and restores a Balance in our individual Identity.

The four ideals listed above are what my ancestors adhered to, which in turn begot; thinking in beauty, speaking in beauty and walking in beauty.

The four ideals that highlight B.O.E's culture and philosophy are…

From the east, the sovereign sun distributes its warm nourishing rays upon Mother Earth and her CHILDREN, so that all life receives its blessing because it is the sun that shows compassion (symbolically speaking) to all children. It is universally taught amongst most cultures to emulate and or portray the good character of your father. So since most of us don't have the guidance and influence from an actual father we can always refer to the allegorical teaching of the sun. Therefore, my ancestor’s simple allegory becomes B.O.E's inspiration to illustrate COMPASSION.

From the south, from which WOMEN endure the painful blessing of birth. It is women who bring life into the world by way of love and affection and it is women who are held in a higher esteem than men. Science has finally validated what Native American have always taught. Which is that all people possess more of the mother's genes than the father. It isn't uncommon for most of us to not have a loving mother. However we are children of Mother Earth and we can certainly accept the fact that she is a living entity that provides nourishment. Therefore, women are sacred and deserving of B.O.E's RESPECT.

From the west, from which the Pacific storm clouds announce their thunderous roar to shower rain upon all forms of life. It is Father Sky and Mother Earth’s blessing for children, so that life may subsist. The Earth is my Mother, every step I take upon her are to be steps of purpose and prayer. Therefore, Mother Earth is to be upheld with holistic REVERENCE.

From the north, from which the cold wind blows. It was a time for elders to share experiences and narrate parables. Elders offered counsel as well as gave advice. We may not have admirable elders in our lives but we do have the changes in season. Understanding the progress in the year increases your knowledge. While opening your ears to another's understanding of changes is earned wisdom. Native American elders have always taught that we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. That reason is to listen more than we speak. Therefore, elders are granted COURTESY.

All Children are innocent and deserving of my compassion. It is expressed compassion that elicits empathy which in turn becomes the encouraging factor that allows B.O.E to be the ray of sunshine on a child’s face. That is absolute Compassion.

All women are sacred, and all women deserve my Respect. My respect comes in different measured increments because not all represent themselves in an equal manner. Nevertheless, showcasing my respect for women enhances and elevates their morale and self- esteem.

All is related in the world because all form of life share Mother Earth’s 118 natural elements. The winged, finned, scaled four legged, two legged and plants share the same breath. I must live in Harmony with all of nature because all of nature is within me and I am a part of all of nature. I shall acknowledge Mother Nature with Respect and Reverence.

All elders hold something worth learning. When I choose to listen more then I speak it yields development and growth. It becomes knowledge and knowledge is like a wind; it cannot be seen, yet it will carry you far and wide. That is Courtesy.

Adherence to the four fundamental ideals prevents B.O.E from straying from its core identity. Abiding in this core identity keeps B.O.E strong and sober. With that acknowledgement I will never return to razor lined horizons nor will I subject myself to liquor and drugs.

                                                                                                                                          Bii’ohii.
